Interested in becoming a guardian home? Learn more below!
Here at Acro Aussies we want each of our dogs to have the best life possible. We want each and every one of our dogs to be individually loved like part of the family. This is where our guardian homes come in.
As a guardian home you get a pick of the litter puppy heavily discounted. You become the puppy's forever home and this eliminates the need for rehoming after they are retired. This program is designed this way to benefit everyone, especially and most importantly the dogs, who are raised in a home with a family and are never a kennel dog.
Acro Aussies retains ownership and breeding rights while the dog lives with a family. Females will have a no more than 4 - 5 litters before retirement. Male contracts tend to be a little longer and are more on a "as-needed" basis. When the guardian dog is of age, we will get all of his/her health clearances done and then if all goes well, we will breed them to a mate of our choosing.
If you are the Guardian Family for a female, you will bring her to our home (or arrange for us to pick her up) to be bred and then she will return home to your family for the duration of her pregnancy. One week before she is due, she will return to our home to get ready for the birth of her puppies. She will stay in our home until her puppies are weaned, approximately 8 weeks! Then the guardian dog will return back to you, her Guardian Family. If you are the Guardian Family for a male, he will just need to come over when we have a female in heat (about 1 week) and then he can return home!
We choose our homes very carefully - be prepared for background checks and lots of questions. We want each of our dogs to have the best life possible and have a happy forever home.
We ask that you feed a high quality food to give your companion the best possible quality of life. Ask us about different food types and quality.
There is no deposit required to become a guardian home. The puppy you would take possession of would be pick of the litter, health tested, and well socialized. We cover all breeding related expenses such as health testing, penhipp, etc. However the guardian home is responsible for all routine vet visits (checkups, annual vaccinations, etc.).
Upon the dogs retirement from the breeding program, we then sign all paperwork over to you as sole owner. There is no pet fee that you will have to pay when your dog is fully released from the program. We believe he/she has earned his/her right to be a part of your family for no extra charge.
Guardian dog owners are NOT OBLIGATED to show their dog, but are encouraged to take classes and participate.
To qualify for a guardian home you must:
- Preferably live in or within 1.5 hours of Kamloops, BC (or be willing to help with transport)
- Keep the dog in a safe and/or contained area at all times
- Take the dog to our vet (Valleyview Vet Clinic) for health care. Or contact is if you'd prefer a different vet!
- Teach basic training
- Provide coat maintenance
- Feed a high quality diet
- No plans of relocating outside of your current area within the next 5 years
- Understand that in exchange for the standard puppy fee you are providing a service. You must be willing to communicate and work with us while the dog is in our program and provide a safe and loving home for the entirety of the dogs life.
You will be responsible for occasionally sending pictures and updates. We are involved as much or as little as you want. This should be a good experience, we want you to love these dogs as part of your family and don't intend to helicopter you.
